Stellantis Offering Up to $72,000 for Employees to Walk Away

Stellantis Offering Employees Up to $72,000 for Voluntary Separation

Stellantis is putting a tempting offer on the table for its U.S. employees, giving them the chance to pocket up to $72,000 and six months of medical benefits if they decide to quit. The automaker’s buyout plan targets hourly UAW workers, with payouts starting at $50,000 for those with at least one year of experience but less than 15. Long-timers who’ve survived the Daimler-Chrysler split, the Global Recession, and the multiple mergers leading to Fiat Chrysler and now Stellantis could snag the full $72K if they’ve been with the company for over 25 years.

According to the Detroit Free Press, which got hold of the offer letter, eligible employees have until May 8 to make their call. The buyout is available only at select Stellantis plants in Michigan, Illinois, and Ohio, where vehicles like the Jeep Wrangler and Ram 1500 are built.

This isn’t the first time Stellantis has made such an offer. In 2023, the company rolled out similar buyout offers to 33,000 employees, and another 11,000 in 2024. It’s unclear how many workers will be affected in this round, but the letter states that Stellantis reserves the right to reject any buyout request.

Stellantis confirmed the buyout offer in a statement to the Free Press, explaining it’s part of an ongoing effort to “improve efficiency and protect competitiveness in a very dynamic market.”

This comes amid significant turbulence at Stellantis, following a rocky 2024 that saw CEO Carlos Tavares exit the company in December. The automaker is still searching for a new leader, facing growing challenges in the shift to electric vehicles, which is taking longer than expected in some regions, while competition intensifies in others.
